The creation of another representative group was motivated by the absence of a unified voice among developing farmers. Breakaway from the African Farmers Association of South Africa (Afasa), the Black Agricultural Commodities Federation was founded recently. At the 10-year-old agricultural organization’s annual elective general meeting held in Durban last month, seven significant Afasa affiliates staged a walkout. They blamed a constitution that excludes the bulk of members and the slow rate of progress.
